Injured hiker winched to safety after plunging 20 metres from Gold Coast cliff

A man is recovering in hospital this morning after falling down a cliff in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The man, aged in his late 20s, plunged between 10-20 metres off Boyds Butte Peak around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

He’s believed to have been hiking on a trail when a rock gave way, causing him to fall and land in a tree.

It sparked a major rescue operation, but it wasn’t an easy task, with the incident occurring in an area that’s around 90 minutes away from the trail entrance.

It resulted in the rescue chopper having to be called in to help winch the man out.

He was eventually rescued around five hours later and transported to hospital with multiple injuries.
