Man wanted on interstate warrant charged after pursuit in North West

A man – wanted on an unrelated warrant in South Australia – has been charged following a pursuit in the North West.

Officers attached to New England Police District were patrolling Moree township about 1.30am on Monday, May 13, when they located a utility which had been reported stolen from Emmaville on Friday, May 10.

Officers activated their lights and sirens and attempted to stop the ute.

When it allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated along the Newell Highway, before the vehicle became bogged on the Clump Road, Bellata.

The driver – a 45-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Moree Hospital. He was not injured in the incident.

Upon release he was taken to Moree Police Station and charged with steal motor vehicle, break and enter house etc steal value <=$60,000, and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously.

He was refused bail and appeared at Moree Local Court on Tuesday, May 14.
