Abigail Elizabeth Smith, of Port Matilda, was born on October 5, 2009 and died unexpectedly on May 12, 2024. Abby was the beloved daughter of Jennifer Black and Jonathon Smith and sister to Xavier Smith and Amelia Smith.

Abby was a loving, creative, fiercely protective, determined old soul with a large group of family and friends who loved her immensely. She was a nurturing big sister to Amelia and an admiring younger sister to Xavier. She also loved and cared for her two pet rats, Noah and Dylan.

Abby was athletic and sampled many sports throughout her life including golf, softball, soccer, swimming, and spent over 5 years in competitive gymnastics. Her musical endeavors included piano, violin, and percussion. Abby loved being a percussionist in both the Park Forest Middle School Concert Band and Symphonic Band and was already signed up to be in marching band as part of the State High drumline.

Abby was also a Girl Scout Cadette, had been a scout for 9 years, and was working towards her silver award. Abby had a passion for creating. She made beaded jewelry, was mastering 3D printing, sewed her own clothing and costumes, and created beautiful items out of resin and clay. Abby was her mom’s best crafting buddy. Another passion of Abby’s was cooking and she followed in her father’s footsteps in the kitchen, creating baked goods, pancakes, and savory dishes. She was excited to take culinary courses at State High in the fall.

Despite her allergies to all that is nature, Abby developed a deep love for the outdoors. Abby was proud to be a leader-in-training this upcoming summer at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center where she had attended camp previous summers since the age of 4.
