Racing betting tips: Thursday May 16

1pt win Military Tycoon in 2.30 Salisbury at 20/1 (General) – min 16/1

1pt win Anamanda in the 2.50 Perth at 8/1 (bet365, Hills) – min 7/1

Sky Bet odds | Paddy Power | Betfair Sportsbook

A flip start for this staying handicap at Salisbury will see the runners head up the straight from the winning post then round the loop and back down, which is a specialist discipline, and siding with one proven in the conditions is a good idea.

MILITARY TYCOON is the only C&D winner in the race and while he makes little appeal on what he’s done over hurdles for Neil Mulholland, the return to turf without the obstacles could be just the ticket.

It was very soft when he landed a C&D handicap on his final start for Hugo Palmer and this will be his first Flat outing on turf since that success.

Still unexposed as a stayer, his runs since have been geared to getting a lenient handicap mark over hurdles and there is no reason to believe he has regressed, so 20/1 looks a bit too big, predicated as it is on his winter form over obstacles.

2.50 Perth

ANAMANDA showed some useful form on the Flat in France, form that would make her look very well handicapped over hurdles today if she could reproduce it, and three runs for Nick Alexander so far have done nothing but look like a horse getting herself both acclimatised and handicapped at the same time.

Twice a winner in France over 1½m with cut in the ground, she showed more when fourth to Lily De Berlais at Ayr last time and has been handed an opening mark of just 94, which looks well below what she should be operating off.

A sharp two miles with some cut should suit, and at 7/1 and bigger she looks worth a wager.
