Head coach Rulani Mokwena has issued his verdict on Mamelodi Sundowns’ arrivals this season including Lucas Riberio, Thembinkosi Lorch and Lesiba Nku, among others

The Brazilians continued their march towards invincibility status with 2-0 win over Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Peter Shalulile and Lesiba Nku.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Mokwena reiterated his stance that the new players will need more time to adapt but expressed his delight with

“Lesiba doesn’t need confidence at the moment, Lesiba needs time, like all of them, Esquival, all of the, Lorch, they don’t need confidence, they need time,” Mokwena told journalists.

“I spoke (specially) about Lesiba because I could see the amount of criticism that was really undue that he was getting.

“So I still advocate, give him time guys. The best is yet to come, believe me, the best of Lesiba is yet to come, and I can say the same about so many of our new players,”

“Like Lucas Ribeiro, I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Lucas Ribeiro, even though I think he’s a close contender for footballer of the season.

“I honestly think, I my opinion, as I said before, It’s Ronwen Williams, Marcello Allende and Teboho Mokoena.

“Then, you have to commend the contribution of (Patrick) Maswanganyi, and maybe (Jayden) Adams, but the reality is the level of Ronza (Ronwen Williams), the level Tebza (Teboho Mokoena) and the level of Marcello Allende, when he came on tonight, you could see and the level of Lucas Ribeiro.

“For me, they’ve been outstanding this season. But be patient, just a little bit of patience will help.”

The next hurdle on Sundowns run to an unbeaten season second-placed Stellenbosch on Saturday. The match will be played at Athlone Stadium.
