Thursday’s weather: High risk of fires expected in at least 3 provinces

The South African Weather Service has warned of a high risk of fires in at least three provinces.

Otherwise, fine, and warm conditions are forecast for most of the country.

Fire danger warnings

Extreme high fire danger conditions are expected in the Hantam, Kareeberg and Ubuntu local municipalities in the Northern Cape, Beaufort West and Laingsburg local municipalities in the Western Cape, as well as parts of the Dr Beyers Naude and Amahlathi local municipalities in the Eastern Cape.

Fine and warm conditions are expected for Gauteng.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy on the Lowveld up to the escarpment at first with morning fog patches on the Highveld and escarpment areas.

Otherwise, fine, and cool to warm but partly cloudy conditions are forecast on the Lowveld up to the escarpment, where it will be cloudy in the morning.

Partly cloudy conditions are expected in Limpopo’s east at first where it will be cloudy in the morning with fog patches over the central parts up to the escarpment.

Otherwise, it will be fine and warm.

The North West and Free State can expect fine and warm temperatures, becoming partly cloudy in the north in the afternoon.

Morning fog is forecast for the Northern Cape along the coast, otherwise fine and warm to hot temperatures are expected, becoming partly cloudy in the extreme north-east in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh south-easterly to southerly.

The Western Cape will be partly cloudy in the western and southern parts with morning fog patches.

Otherwise, fine, and cool to warm conditions are expected.

The wind along the coast will be a light northerly to north-easterly along the south coast at first.

Otherwise, a moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly wind, becoming light to moderate and reaching a fresh to strong westerly to north-westerly, is expected along the south-west coast.

It will spread to the south coast from late morning.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

Morning fog is expected in the western half of the Eastern Cape and in places in the south.

Otherwise, fine, and warm to hot but partly cloudy conditions are forecast along the coast where it will be cloudy in the morning.

The wind along the coast will be a light northerly in the morning, otherwise it will be fresh to strong south-westerly.

The eastern half of the province will have morning fog in places in the south-west.

Otherwise, fine, and warm to hot temperatures are forecast, becoming partly cloudy along the coast west of East London by late morning.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming a moderate south-westerly west of East London by late morning.

KwaZulu-Natal will be fine and warm.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate north-westerly at first. Otherwise, a moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly wind is forecast.
