Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram firmly believes limited overs captain Babar Azam is “among the three best batters in the world right now.”

Azam has long been Pakistan’s go-to run-scorer and what Wasim loves about the 29-year-old is the way he “plays proper cricketing shots” to get his runs.

The Lahore native’s form has been a talking point as of late as he has went through a turbulent patch in Pakistan’s last few series.

Despite this, Wasim still sees him as one of the top batsmen in the game.

“Babar is a very good player. He is among the three best batters in the world right now and he plays proper cricketing shots,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam recently captained the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished as the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 569 runs in 11 games, which included a century and five fifties, at an average of 56.90 and a strike-rate of 142.60.

He then led Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and accumulated 125 runs in five games, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.

Following that, the men in green took on Ireland in a three-match T20I series and Azam led from the front, scoring 132 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 148.31.

Pakistan’s next assignment will see them play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
