Volunteers needed at Yusuf Dadoo Primary School

The Link Literacy and Numeracy project has established a branch at Yusuf Dadoo Primary School in Azaadville and seeks volunteers throughout the year. No experience is required.

The Yusuf Dadoo Primary School Centre, opened in July 2023, becoming the Link’s 18th centre. Several community members volunteered to assist under the supervision of the volunteer centre manager, Halima Mahomed, and doors remain open to more volunteers.

The Link is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of literacy and numeracy in children for whom English is a second language, and who attend low-income schools in Johannesburg.

The organisation was founded in 2010 by Margi Bashall, a teacher inspired by the Shine Centre. It is managed and staffed by volunteers and community members committed to making a difference in education.

The Link is recognised by Gauteng educational authorities and has permission to operate during school hours and work with children in grades two and three, who are identified by valid testing to be at risk of not achieving their potential.

The project currently has 17 Link centres running in Johannesburg schools, and the network reaches roughly 800 children each week.
